FOREST GROVE Jordan Bodily's (Fr., Eagle, Idaho) first half breakaway goal was all that Pacific needed to secure their first win of the season Monday night as the Boxers beat Warner Pacific in womenıs soccer action under the lights at Lincoln Park Stadium.
Bodily put Pacific on the scoreboard for the first time this season with her unassisted goal in the 28th minute, stealing the ball away from a Warner Pacific defender midway down the Knightsı end of the field. Bodily dribbled to just above the 18-yard box and fired home for her first collegiate goal.
The strike was the punctuation point in a match that saw the Boxers (1-3-0) dominate things offensively, outshooting the Knights 12-6. The Boxers also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in an aggressively played contest.
Most of the Knights (1-4-1) best chances to score came later in the second half as they packed the ball down on their offensive end. The Pacific defense held, however, and did not allow a single shot from the Knights in the final 20 minutes.
Pacific nearly made it 2-0 late in the match when midfielder Becca Roth (Jr., Rainier, Ore.) got hold of a ball at midfield and found Ashley Kanda (So., Kaneohe, Hawaii) streaking down the right side of the field. Kanda took one long dribble and charged towards 18-yard box before colliding with Warner Pacific goalkeeper Lacey Golden to end the threat.
Pacific goalie Erin Ichimura (So., Wailuku, Hawaii) earned her first shutout for the Boxers, making four saves in the victory. Golden came up with three saves in the loss.
Pacific will now turn its attention from the non-conference schedule to the conference schedule. The Boxers open their Northwest Conference season at home Saturday afternoon, hosting Pacific Lutheran. Warner Pacific will wait 10 days before opening their Cascade Conference schedule, hosting Cascade on Sept. 25.
