Coming Up - Northwest Conference Play Begins:
Sun., Sept. 21, 2:30 p.m. - vs. University of Puget Sound Loggers (2-3, NWC 0-0), in Newberg, Ore.
Northwest Conference play begins for the Bruins, who were picked 7th in the pre-season NWC coaches poll, this Sunday when they host the Puget Sound Loggers, who were picked 3rd. UPS currently ranks 6th in the NWC in scoring (1.40 goals per game) and 5th in goals-against average (1.00). Kyle Benson has been the Loggers' top scorer thus far with 3 goals and 6 points on the season, tying for 5th in goals and 8th in points in the NWC. Taylor Hyde has also scored a pair of goals, tied for 10th in the league.

Kyle Story Wins BAA Award; Story and Maguire HM for NWC Honors:
Junior midfielder Kyle Story has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week and received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 8-14. He gave Bruins an early lead in their only game of the week, an eventual 2-2 tie at home against California State-East Bay on Sept. 10, with a sliding goal. He had four shots in the game, including two with chances to win the game in the second overtime, but the first one was stopped on spectacular save by the East Bay keeper and the second missed the crossbar by a few inches.
Junior goalkeeper Jake Maguire received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 8-14 for keeping the Bruins in the game against Cal State-East Bay. He faced 22 total shots, 7 on goal, and made 5 saves, including two outstanding stops, one on a line drive and one a diving deflection, in the second overtime to preserve the tie.
Maguire was the Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week for Sept. 1-7 when he had 4 saves, including spectacular stops, while facing 17 shots, 6 on goal, in a narrow 2-1 loss to NCAA Division II Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 6. That also earned him honorable mention for NWC honors, which he also received for Aug. 25-31 when he had 6 saves in a 1-0 loss at Corban in the season opener on Aug. 29.
Senior midfielder Jon Maroni earned Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week honors and was honorable mention for NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 25-31 after he scored two goals on three shots in the Bruins' 8-2 loss to Warner Pacific on Aug. 30. Maroni missed all of the 2007 season with a knee injury.
Junior midfielder Keith Marshall also received honorable mention for NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 1-7 when he had a team-high four shots and assisted on the Bruins' only goal of the game in a 2-1 loss to Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 6. He had four shots and was the Bruins' greatest offensive threat in a 2-0 loss to Great Falls on Sept. 5.

Keith Marshall is 6th in shots (14) ... Jon Maroni is 10th in goals (2, tie) ... Garret Blizzard is 3rd in assists (2, tie) ... Brian Story is 3rd in assists (2, tie), 7th in assists per game (0.33, tie) ... Tony Zamora is 3rd in game-winning goals (1, tie) ... Coach Tim Tsohantaridis:
Tim Tsohantaridis (Barrington ' 77) is 51-27-5 (.645) in the first year of his second tour of duty and 5th season overall as head coach of the George Fox men's team. He led the Bruins to a 50-23-4 record from 1986-89, winning the NCCAA national championship in 1988 and earning NCCAA National Coach of the Year honors for that achievement. Counting a 6-6 in one season (1979) at Barrington, he has a cumulative record in his 7th season as a college head coach of 57-33-5 (.626). He is also a professor of Biblical studies at George Fox.
