Cavaliers Up a Spot in Latest NAIA Ranking

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -Entering the week with a 3-3-1 record against a schedule that featured two teams ranked in the top five in the preseason poll, including unanimous No. 1 Azusa Pacific, the Concordia men's soccer program gained one position to move up to No. 18 in the latest NAIA poll released Sept. 16.
The Cavaliers received 267 votes towards the national poll compared to 215 the previous week.
Despite the even record, Concordia tied then No. 7Azusa Pacific 1-1 on Sept. 5 at the Far West Nike Challenge and defeated Cal State-East Bay 5-0 at home on Sept. 11.
There is a new team occupying the No.1 spot in this week with Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) improving to 5-0-0 after defeating Emmanuel (Ga.) 3-0, Houghton (N.Y.) 3-0, and Vanguard (Calif.) 1-0 this week. The Senators received 17 first-place votes and 616 total points.
Rio Grande (Ohio) checks in at No.2 after receiving four first-place votes and 596 total points. Fresno Pacific moves to No. 3 as the Sunbirds receive one first-place vote and 591 total points. Coming in at No.4 is Simon Fraser (B.C.) who earns had 554 total points. Rounding out the Top 5 is Lindsey Wilson, who earns 532 total points.
Five teams enter the Top 25 for the first time this season, including Montreat (NC). The Cavaliers come in at No. 16 after knocking off then-No.1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 1-0 last week. The other newcomers to the poll are No. 22 Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.); No.23 Belhaven (Miss.); No. 24 Westmont (Calif.), and No. 25 Lindenwood (Mo.)
The next regular season Top 25 poll will be announced on Sept. 23.
