Cascade Comes Back To Defeat Northwest U

KIRKLAND, WA - Cascade College (Portland, OR) came back from a 3 point halftime deficit to defeat Northwest University, 84-76 in Cascade Conference play tonight in Kirkland.
Cascade jumped out to an early 17-7 lead with 14:41 remaining in the first half on Te Awhina Aranui's jumper. The Thunderbirds would increase their lead to 14 points and would lead 27-13 with 9:23 left in the first half, but the Eagles of Northwest would go on a 10-3 run at the end of the half to lead 40-37 going into the locker room.
Northwest would lead 10 minutes into the second half when Cascade would begin their run. With the score 64-58, Cascade's Robin Swain's 3-pointer would bring the T-Birds to within 3 at 64-61. Swain's two free throws at the 5:05 mark would give Cascade the lead 72-70 and a 3-pointer by Amy Russell would give Cascade a 5 point lead, 75-70 with 4:24 to go in the game. Two free throws by Raquel Morin would seal the victory with 49 seconds to go and put Cascade up, 84-74.
Robin Swain led Cascade College (9-6, 2-3 CCC) with 23 points while teammate Te Awhina Aranui scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Amy Russell notched a double-double with a 15 point, 10 rebound night for the Thunderbirds.
Brittany Bowsher led Northwest U. (2-12, 1-5 CCC) with 32 points and 6 rebounds. Rachel Travis (Jr., North Bend, WA) and Lydia Llewellyn (Sr., Seattle, WA) both scored 11 a piece for the Eagles who shot 46% for the game as NU lost its sixth straight.
Northwest U. remains at home on Tuesday evening as they host The Evergreen State College in Kirkland while Cascade College returns home to host Corban College on January 11.
