Barrage Of Goals Sends Oregon Past Fresno State
Written by GoDucks.com    Wednesday, 10 April 2013 22:30

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Oregon Ducks scored a season-high 18 goals en route to a convincing 18-8 win at Fresno State on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory marked Oregon's first of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season.  The Ducks are now 6-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.  Fresno State fell to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the MPSF.

Oregon junior Shannon Propst continued her stellar play, scoring a career-high five goals, dishing out two assists and totaling a career-best seven points against the Bulldogs. Propst's first assist of the day, the 58th of her career, went to Sami Kiser at the 19:39 mark in the first half and it moved Propst past Jen May for fourth on Oregon's all-time assist list.

Propst's five goals are tied for the most goals scored by a Duck in a single game this year. Junior Hayley Milner, who finished with four goals on Thursday at Fresno State, has accomplished the feat twice.

Also recording hat-tricks for the Ducks were Kiser and Nikki Puscz. Devon Frazer, Ashley Inman and Olivia Pyne were responsible for Oregon's other three goals. Inman, a senior, matched a career-high three assists today as well.

After falling behind 1-0 less than four minutes into the game, Oregon responded by scoring the next seven goals to take a 7-1 lead with 16:17 remaining in the first half.

But Fresno State kept the game close and out-scored the Ducks 4-2 over the final 16 minutes of the half to cut the deficit to four (9-5) heading into the locker room.

Out of the halftime break, Oregon blitzed the Bulldogs with four-straight goals to push its lead to eight, 13-5, with 21:30 to go in the game. The first three goals of the half were scored by Propst, while Puszcz tallied the fourth.

Fresno State would draw no closer than seven the rest of the way and the Ducks cruised to a 10-goal victory.

Oregon won the draw control battle, 20-8, and out-shot the Bulldogs, 28-18.

Caroline Federighi and Salliebeth Finnegan split the time in goal for Oregon.  Federighi made four saves in the second half, while Finnegan posted two in the first.

The Ducks return home for their next game on Sunday, April 14 against Saint Mary's. The game marks the final home regular season game of the year.  Six Oregon seniors (Kate Cathell, Dominique Christiansen, Finnegan, Inman, Maggie Kovacs and Bridget Morrison) will be honored before the game.  Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
