Women's Lacrosse - Allegheny 14, Pacific 13:

FOREST GROVE – Another big offensive performance by Amy Mayhugh (So., Tigard, Ore.) was not enough for Pacific in their most intense game of the season Thursday night as the Boxers took their first loss of the year, 14-13, to Allegheny, in women's lacrosse action at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Mayhugh scored five goals, one of short of her season high, three of which came off of free position shots in the first half.  Pacific built a 7-3 lead in the first half, saw it shrink to 7-5 by halftime before the Gators took the lead for good with 13:52 left in the game.

In addition to her six goals, Mayhugh finished with six draw controls and two ground balls and was a perfect 4 for 4 on free position shots.  Kaitlyn Harper (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) tallied three goals while Kristen Dick (Sr., Auburn, Wash.) and Kelly Stevens (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each scored two.  Stevens added nine draw controls and two caused turnovers to her line.

Kelly Dickson paced Allegheny (6-1) with six goals and four assists.  McKenzie Bell added four goals, two assists and six ground balls while Kelsey Rodgers added three goals and four caused turnovers.

Allegheny outshot Pacific 33-24, including a 17-11 advantage in the second half.  The Gators also held a 31-20 advantage in ground balls while the Boxers held a 17-12 edge in ground balls.

Pacific (4-1) opened the game by setting the offensive pace and controlling possession.  Stevens and Harper scored the contest's first two goals off of free position shots before Dickson tied things with two straight unassisted strikes.  The Boxers then scored five of the next six goals stretched over a 12-minute span.  Mayhugh had three on free position goals, including the last of the run with 2:41 left, to give the Boxers a 7-3 lead.

Allegheny made things closer in the final two minutes of the stanza as Dickson and Bell both tallied to make it a 7-5 lead at halftime.

The Gators came into the second half with a new fire, making it difficult for the Boxers to develop many offensive opportunities.  Bell tied the game at 8-8 off of Dickson's assist at the 24:25 mark and the pair combined to give the Gators their first lead, 9-8, with 18:16 left.

Harper scored the next two goals for the Boxers, both on free position attempts, to give the Boxers back a 10-9 edge, but Rodgers' free position strike with 14:31 left tied the game at 10-10 and Pacific would never lead again.

Allegheny took a 13-11 lead on another Rodgers' free position shot with 7:25 left, and then bunkered down to try and keep the ball from the Boxers.  Mayhugh, however, came through late to give the Boxers a chance.  She gained a free position attempt and scored with 2:54 left to being the game within one and then tallied off a Harper assists with just over a minute to go.  The Gators had the last word, though, with Dickson scoring off a Bell assists with 45 seconds left for the win.

Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) finished with a season-high 14 saves as she dropped to 4-1 in goal.  Chloe Kedizora improved to 6-0 in a goalkeeper's “closer” role, making one save while playing the final 14 minutes of the game.  Starting goalkeeper Eliza Morgan made four saves in 46 minutes of action.

After three games at home, the Boxers will take to the road for four.  Pacific will play their next three games in Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning with a Saturday matchup with Plymouth State.  Allegheny, of Meadville, Pa., returns home after a two-game trip to the Northwest and will next host Denison on Mar. 30.
